The Market

While Peter’s life experience inspired the establishment of Harrys Civil and Construction (Pty) Ltd, it also served the basis for the overall market research as he started by making his own dream become a reality which gave him the confidence to wanna serve the community at large.
The primary research was conducted to better understand the customer needs, expectations and challenges in making their dream homes a reality. In addition, the secondary market research was done to better understand the building industry at the national and ultimately the international level.
30 individuals were engaged, and asked the following questions:

• If there is one thing you could improved in your childhood, what will that be?
• What will a decent and safe home look like for you?
• What will be one thing that will make you not realize your dream home?

The research confirmed that 90% of the individuals related to Peter’s story, and all the hardship he went through. Living in a better house with main necessities and basics is of priority. The 5% of the individuals had a much better living conditions as their parents were professional (e.g. police, teacher and nurses), however they still believe that their homes could have been better, and well maintained. The remaining 5% just had enough with the rural life and their wish is migrate to urban areas.
In addition, 5 mines were engaged their needs and challenges for residential building and maintenance. The following questions were asked:
• How critical is your residential building for the business?
• How often do they get maintained?
• Which structure will work best for the benefit of the business, and employees?
• How many employees uses the residential buildings?
It is evident that the mining groups do need residential buildings, despite the minimal usage and they are required by law to keep them to good standards for the wellbeing of their HARRYS BUSINESS THINK DOCUMENT 2020-2021 12 employees, and their families. The mines prefer a minimal maintenance structures as their interest is more on making business, understandable so however, the opportunity is there for Harrys Civil and Construction (Pty) Ltd to tap into mining for building and maintenance services. This will the business with the much needed opportunity to diverse Harrys’ clientele.
